Box Score Game Summary

The University of Saskatchewan Huskies scored three goals in the second half of the second period, lifting the visitors to a 7-1 victory over the Regina Cougars on Saturday night in a Canada West women's hockey game at The Co-Operators Centre.

The Huskies led by a pair after the first period following goals from Julie Paetsch and Chelsey Sundby, then kicked the offence into high gear in the second. Breanne George and Cara Wooster scored in the span of 2:35 midway through the frame, and another goal by Danny Stone just over four minutes later gave the Huskies a 5-0 lead going into the final frame.

Rookie goaltender Morgan Cooper came on in relief of starter Lisa Urban for the Cougars in the third, but George greeted her just after the two-minute mark with her second of the contest and her 13th of the season. Wooster added her second of the night on the power play near the midpoint of the final session to put the Huskies up seven.

Rianne Wight notched the Cougars' lone goal of the game with six minutes left in the third. Kelcie McCutcheon and Paige Wheeler both notched assists on Wight's 13th of the season.

Mackenzie Rizos turned aside 33 shots in the win for the Huskies, who improve to 10-5-1 with the victory. Saskatchewan now sits in second place in the conference with 21 points.

Urban stopped 20 shots in 40 minutes of play for the Cougars, while Cooper stopped seven of nine shots in the third. Regina falls to 5-9-2 with the loss.

Both teams had seven opportunities with the man advantage, but Wooster's goal was the only power play marker of the contest.

The Huskies will be back in action next weekend against Manitoba, while the Cougars will have a weekend off before returning to the ice on Jan. 21 and Jan. 22 at home against UBC.

NOTES: Regina head coach Sarah Hodges led Team Canada to a silver medal at the 2011 IIHF World Women's Under-18 Championship in Stockholm, Sweden ... Hodges and Team Canada sported a 4-1 record at the tournament, with their only setback coming on Saturday in a 5-2 loss to the United States in the gold medal game.
