The University of Saskatchewan scored twice in the third period and registered a 2-0 victory over the Regina Cougars on Saturday night in Canada West women's hockey action at The Co-operators Centre.

After a scoreless first two periods, the Huskies broke through early in the third as Sara White tapped in a rebound following a Julie Paetsch shot on a shorthanded two-on-one break. Danny Stone added an insurance goal six minutes later following a goalmouth scramble.

Vanessa Frederick made 16 saves to secure the shutout for Saskatchewan, which improves its Canada West record to 2-0-0. Lisa Urban, who was stellar in the first two periods before finally being solved in the third, ended up with 32 saves on the night for the Cougars (0-2-0).

Neither team was able to score with the power play, as Saskatchewan was 0-for-3 and Regina was 0-for-4. The Huskies outshot the Cougars by an 11-1 margin in the second period alone and held a 34-16 advantage for the game. Breanne George alone fired eight shots at Urban but was held off the scoresheet.

The Cougars will be back in action next weekend at The Co-operators Centre with a pair of games against Manitoba (0-2-0), while Saskatchewan will travel to Lethbridge for two games against the Pronghorns (1-0-0).
