Jennifer Schmidt (pictured) made 25 saves to secure her first Canada West shutout as the University of Regina's women's hockey team completed a weekend sweep with a 3-0 win over the UBC Thunderbirds on Saturday night in Vancouver.

Katelyn Kennedy opened the scoring for the Cougars with her first of the season with just under six minutes left in the first period to notch the lone goal of the opening frame.

Darci Kirkwood's first career goal extended Regina's lead to two midway through the second, and Kaitlin Sherven put the Cougars up 3-0 with a goal three minutes shy of the second intermission.

Sherven also assisted on Kennedy's goal to record a two-point night, while Jade Dennis recorded her first career point with an assist on Kirkwood's goal.

The Cougars outshot UBC by a 27-25 margin in the win. Regina had five power play opportunities while UBC had six, but neither team was able to connect with the man advantage. UBC goalie Samantha Langford made 24 saves.

The win improves Regina's Canada West record to 3-3-0. The Cougars are currently tied with Calgary (3-1-0) for fourth place in the conference standings, though the Dinos have a pair of games in hand. The Cougars have a weekend off before returning to the Canada West schedule with a pair of games at Calgary on Nov. 11 and Nov. 12.
