Jesse Craige's goal in double overtime gave the University of Alberta a 4-3 win over the Regina Cougars on Saturday night in a Canada West game at The Co-operators Centre.

With just over a minute remaining in the second extra session, Craige and Travis Toomey broke in on a 2-on-1 following a missed scoring chance by the Cougars. Toomey slid a pass over to Craige, who found the top corner with wrist shot to give the Golden Bears their seventh consecutive conference victory.

Real Cyr made 25 saves in the win for Alberta, while Cougar netminder Lucas Gore faced 38 shots and stopped 34 of them.

Just as they did in Friday's game, Alberta (10-2-2) opened the scoring with a goal just past the two-minute mark of the first period. This time, it was Colin Joe scoring the Golden Bears' first goal – but, unlike Friday's affair, the Cougars had a response.

That response came in the form of a Tyler Penny goal which tied up the contest just past the midway point of the first period, but Alberta's Jordan Hickmott scored his seventh of the season with less than two minutes to go in the opening frame to give the Golden Bears a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes.

Regina's Liam Brennan notched his first Canada West goal just shy of the five-minute mark of the third period to tie the score at two apiece, but again Alberta had a reply. Zack Dailey scored towards the end of the second period to restore the Golden Bears' one-goal advantage heading into the third.

The Cougars (4-8-2) tied it up for the third time in the game midway through the third on assistant captain Partik Bhungal's first of the season. Bhungal's marker stood as the only goal of the third, sending the game into overtime. The first five-minute overtime solved nothing despite three shots on goal by both teams, sending the game into a second overtime and setting the stage for Craige's game winner.

All seven goals were scored even strength, as Alberta was 0-for-4 with the man advantage and the Cougars were held scoreless on their three opportunities.

Alberta will hit the road again next weekend for a pair of games at Manitoba, while the Cougars will play their final games before the December break against provincial rival Saskatchewan in Saskatoon.
