Box Score Game Summary
The University of Regina's men's hockey team was shut out 2-0 by the Calgary Dinos on Friday night in a Canada West game at the Max Bell Arena in Calgary.
Calgary's Jerrid Sauer and Walker Wintoneak both scored in the first period, generating all the offence the Dinos would need as Kris Lazaruk recorded a 19-save shutout.
Sauer opened the scoring just over two minutes into the game with a shot from the point with Calgary on the power play. Wintoneak scored six minutes later on a deflection to put Calgary up 2-0. Aaron Richards assisted on both Calgary goals.
The Cougars outshot the Dinos by a 10-9 margin in the middle stanza, but Lazaruk stopped them all including a shorthanded breakaway by
Lucas Isley midway through the second. Regina pulled starting goalie #A.J. Whiffen# to give them a 6-on-4 advantage late in the third, but the Cougars weren't able to solve Lazaruk.
Calgary improves to 15-8-2 with the victory and moves into a tie with Saskatchewan for second place in the Canada West standings.
Whiffen made 29 saves for the Cougars, who drop to 8-17-2 and play their final game of the season on Saturday night against Calgary.
