Box Score Game Summary

The University of Alberta's Sarah Hilworth broke a 1-1 tie 44 seconds into the third period and Leah Copeland added an insurance marker just under three minutes later, lifting the Pandas to a 3-1 win over the Regina Cougars on Friday night in women's hockey action at The Co-Operators Centre.

Copeland also opened the scoring for Alberta, striking 3:28 into the game with help from Alana Cabana. The Pandas peppered Cougar goalie Lisa Urban with 14 shots in the first period, but only Copeland's shot found the twine.

Stefanie Banilevic tied up the game with a power play goal for the Cougars six minutes into the second after her point shot found its way through a crowd and beat Alberta goalie Michala Jeffries, giving the fourth-year defenceman her first goal of the season. Kelcie McCutcheon and Rianne Wight both notched assists on the goal.

Hilworth's goal, her 12th of the season and first game winner of the 2010-11 campaign, came following a goalmouth scrum on a 5-on-3 power play and was assisted by Copeland and Nicole Pratt. Copeland's insurance goal gave her a three-point night and gave the Pandas a two-goal lead that they would hang onto throughout the final period.

Jeffries made 20 saves to help Alberta improve its impressive Canada West record to 15-3-3 on the season. The Pandas fired 42 shots on Urban, but the fourth-year goalie had a phenomenal night and stopped 39 of them.

The Pandas were 1-for-13 on the power play, while the Cougars were successful on one of their seven opportunities with the man advantage.

Alberta and Regina (7-12-2) will meet again on Saturday night at The Co-Operators Centre.
