Box Score

The top-ranked University of Regina's women's basketball team opened up a 20-point first-quarter lead and never looked back, defeating the Manitoba Bisons by a 105-52 score on Saturday night in a dominant Canada West victory.

The Cougars ended the opening quarter with 13 consecutive points, led by 30 at halftime, and continued to pour it on in the second half to end up more than doubling Manitoba's score.

Danielle Schmidt was 7-for-14 from the field and led the Cougars with 18 points in 22 minutes on the floor, while Lindsay Ledingham led all players with 10 rebounds and finished two points short of a double-double. Besides Schmidt, three other Cougars broke into double figures in scoring in the victory, including Madi Docherty (14 points), Alyssia Kajati (12), and Joanna Zalesiak (11).

Allison Balasko led the Bisons in scoring for the second consecutive night, ending up with 11.

The Cougars, who now boast an unblemished 11-0 Canada West record, finally return to the friendly confines of the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport next Friday (Fraser Valley) and Saturday (Trinity Western) after more than two full months without a home game.

NOTES: The Cougars have had a perfect 11-0 record on two previous occasions (2001-02 and 2003-04) but have never opened the season with 12 consecutive conference victories.
