The University of Regina's women's hockey team handed No. 1-ranked Calgary its first loss of the 2012-13, as
Paige Wheeler scored in overtime to give the Cougars a 4-3 win on Saturday night at Father David Bauer Arena in Calgary.
Just over a minute into overtime, Wheeler went in on a 2-on-1 with
Rianne Wight. Wight slid the puck over to Wheeler, who fired it just inside the post to give the Cougars the big road victory.
The game was sent into overtime after Calgary's Stephanie Ramsay scored with a shot from the slot with two minutes left to tie the game at three apiece.

Jill Kennedy and
Kylie Gavelin and fifth-year forward
Rianne Wight also scored for the U of R. Iya Gavrilova and Tanya Morgan had Calgary's other goals. Second-year goalie
Jennifer Schmidt was spectacular in net for the Cougars in the victory, saving 44 of Calgary's 47 shots to earn her first victory of the season.
Kennedy opened the scoring seven minutes into the first, scoring her first CIS goal after
Stephanie Sawchuk fed her a pass from in tight following a goalmouth scramble. Sawchuk was in on Regina's second goal of the period as well after putting a shot on net that was saved by Calgary goalie Jennifer Mallard, but
Kylie Gavelin buried the rebound to score her first CIS goal as well.
The Cougars led 2-0 after one and 2-1 after 40 minutes, as Iya Gavrilova scored for Calgary in the latter stages of the second period.
Calgary's Tanya Morgan tied up the game early in the final frame with a power play goal, but Wight scored midway through the third to restore the U of R's lead. Ramsay's late goal put the game into overtime, setting the stage for Wheeler's heroics.
Sawchuk also assisted on Wight's goal, giving her a three-point night.
Mallard made 16 saves in the loss for Calgary, as the Dinos outshot Regina by a 47-20 margin. The Cougars were 1-for-7 on the power play, while the Dinos were 1-for-5 with the man advantage.
The Cougars head back to Calgary next weekend for a two-game series at Mount Royal.
