The outcome of the game was in little doubt after a massive early run by the No. 3-ranked Cougars. Manitoba's Stephanie Drain hit a jumper with four minutes left in the first quarter to make the score 12-8 in favour of the Cougars, but the home team pulled away from there with 22 unanswered points over the next seven minutes of the contest.
The Cougars led 44-14 at the half and outscored the Bisons 25-10 in the third quarter to lead 69-24 going into the fourth. The U of R also held a big rebounding advantage in the win, pulling down 62 rebounds to Manitoba's 22.
The two teams will meet again on Sunday afternoon at the CKHS. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
NOTES: The Cougars have now won 14 consecutive games over Manitoba and haven't lost to the Bisons since Nov. 30, 2007 ... the Bisons fall to 2-3 with the loss.
