The University of Regina's men's hockey team pushed No. 1-ranked Saskatchewan to overtime, but a goal by the Huskies' Cody Hobbs two minutes into the extra session on a shot from the point gave the home side a 2-1 victory on Friday night at Rutherford Rink in Saskatoon.

Andrew Hayes (pictured) was brilliant in the overtime loss for the Cougars, making 40 saves to help the U of R secure an important point on the road.

Brayden Nargang scored the Cougars with just under five minutes remaining in regulation to tie the game at 1-1. Sanfred King and Jordan Reeve drew the assists on Nargang's goal, his second of the season. Both regulation goals came in the third period, as Saskatchewan's Kenton Dulle had opened the scoring about eight minutes into the final frame after the game opened with two scoreless periods.

Saskatchewan goalie Ryan Holfeld made 25 saves in the win.

The Cougars move to 5-3-1 and are in a three-way tie with UBC and Manitoba for third place in the conference standings with 11 points each.

Saskatchewan and Regina will finish off the home-and-home on Saturday night at The Co-operators Centre in Regina. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
