Box Score
The University of Regina's women's basketball team improved to 18-0 on the season after recording a 99-85 road win over Lethbridge on Friday night in Lethbridge.
The Pronghorns put together a 13-2 run over the final five minutes of the first quarter to erase what had been a six-point Cougar lead, but the U of R scored seven consecutive points before halftime to take a two-point lead into the break.
The Cougars pulled away almost immediately following halftime, holding Lethbridge to just two points over the first four minutes of the third quarter and getting three-pointers from
Michelle Clark,
Joanna Zalesiak, and
Carly Graham to help build up their first double-digit lead of the contest.
Lethbridge cut the deficit back down to seven with under four minutes left in the third, but the Cougars restored the double-digit lead and held off the Pronghorns down the stretch to nail down the win.
All five Cougar starters scored in double digits, led by 19 from both Clark and
Danielle Schmidt. Zalesiak had 17 points to go along with 11 assists, which ties Jana Schweitzer's school record for most assists in a conference game since the U of R joined Canada West prior to the 2001-02 season.
Brittany Read (12 points) and
Lindsay Ledingham (10) also hit double figures in scoring, with Read adding a team-high seven rebounds.
Lethbridge's Lauren Taal led all scorers with 23 points.
Regina and Lethbridge will meet again on Saturday night.
