The University of Regina's men's hockey team suffered an 8-1 road loss to Saskatchewan on Friday night in a Canada West game at Rutherford Rink in Saskatoon.

The win improves Saskatchewan's record to 18-6-3 as the Huskies keep pace with first-place Manitoba and second-place Alberta, who both won on Friday night.

Chris Durand and Kyle Bortis both had a pair of goals for the Huskies, with Durand adding two assists for a four-point night. Derek Hulak had a goal and three helpers to join Durand with a four-point effort, while Travis Brisebois, Brett Ward, and Craig McCallum also scored for Saskatchewan in the victory.

Russ Nielsen's power play goal late in the second period stood as Regina's lone goal of the contest. Brock Appleyard and Mark Schneider assisted on Nielsen's fourth goal of the season.

David Reekie made 31 saves for Saskatchewan as the Huskies outshot the Cougars by a 45-32 margin. Regina was 1-for-4 on the power play, while Saskatchewan was 2-for-4.

Saskatchewan goes into Saturday night's game two points back of Manitoba and one point back of Alberta, so the Huskies will need a win over the Cougars and some help on the out-of-town scoreboard to move up in the Canada West standings.

The Huskies and the Cougars finish off the Canada West schedule on Saturday night at 7 p.m. at The Co-operators Centre.
