Box Score

The No. 2-ranked University of Regina's women's basketball team took out Mount Royal by a 73-39 margin in an all-Cougar matchup on Saturday night in Canada West action at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

Brittany Read (pictured) led the way for Regina by notching the game's lone double-double, leading all players in both points (15) and rebounds (11) in the win. Kehlsie Crone finished just shy of her first career double-double, tying her career high with 12 points and setting a new single-game high with nine rebounds. Megan Chamberlin led Regina off the bench with nine points, while Nicisha Johnson had eight rebounds in just 11 minutes on the floor.

The win improves Regina's record to 11-1 as the Cougars briefly pull ahead of Calgary (10-1) for first place in the Prairie Division standings pending the results of the Dinos' game at Thompson Rivers late Saturday night.

Mount Royal matched the U of R bucket for bucket in the opening stages of the third quarter, but after the game was tied 8-8 the hometown Cougars simply seized control of this one. Mount Royal was limited to just six points over the game's next 24 minutes – including only two in the entire second quarter – with the U of R scoring 44 in that span to pull away.

Three players broke into double figures in scoring for Mount Royal, led by Hilary Annich with 12 points. Lisa Ivanics and Emily Larson both scored 10 for the visitors, while Larson and Jordan Anstice tied for the team lead with five rebounds each.

Mount Royal (3-9) will host Manitoba and Winnipeg next weekend in Calgary, while the Cougars have a big road weekend upcoming with games against Pacific Division opponents Victoria and UBC.
