Ticket Information

After a road sweep over Mount Royal last weekend, the University of Regina's men's hockey team returns to action this weekend with a home-and-home against No. 5-ranked Saskatchewan. The teams will meet at The Co-operators Centre in Regina on Friday night (7 p.m.) before finishing the two-game series in Saskatoon on Saturday.

The Cougars enter the weekend three points back of fifth-place UBC and four points back of fourth-place Calgary, but have a tough final six games of the schedule with No. 1-ranked Alberta and No. 9-ranked Manitoba looming on the Canada West slate after this weekend's games against the Huskies.

Lucas Gore had a 31-save shutout in Friday's 3-0 win over Mount Royal, while Ward Szucki – a rookie forward who came into the weekend series with one goal on the season – exploded for a hat trick in the U of R's 6-5 win on Saturday. The sweep clinched a Canada West playoff berth for the Cougars, who will return to the conference postseason for the first time since the 2008-09 season.

Though he missed the Mount Royal series, Tyler Henry still leads the Cougars in both goals (10) and points (16). John Sonntag had a three-point night last Saturday and now leads the team's blueliners with 11 points this season, while Gore and Andrew Hayes continue to split time between the pipes for first-year head coach Todd Johnson.

This weekend will mark the first home games for rookie forward Drew Czerwonka, who played with the WHL's Kootenay ICE for three full seasons – including two with Johnson serving as an assistant coach with Kootenay.

Saskatchewan (15-7-0) is coming off a home split with UBC, as the Huskies lost 6-4 last Friday before recovering for a 4-3 shootout victory on Saturday. The Huskies are led offensively by Kyle Bortis, who's tied for second in the Canada West scoring race with 29 points on the season. Brennan Bosch and Jimmy Bubnick also average at least a point per game for Saskatchewan, while goalie David Holfeld has started 21 of the Huskies' 22 games this season and leads the conference in minutes played.

The two teams met in a home-and-home earlier this season, with Saskatchewan taking a 2-1 overtime win in Saskatoon back on Nov. 9 and the Cougars replying with a 2-1 win of their own in Regina one night later.
