The University of Regina men's hockey team got goals from five different players on their way to a 5-1 victory over Mount Royal on Friday night.
Austin Bourhis,
Tyler Penny,
Cody Fowlie,
Christian Magnus and
Carter Selinger all found the back of the net for Regina.
Lucas Gore stopped 29 of 30 shots to pick up the win in goal. Matt Brown had the lone marker for Mount Royal.
After a scoreless first period, Regina began to take control. Bourhis scored 5:50 into the second to put his team up 1-0. Seven minutes later
Tyler Penny lit the lamp for what would prove to be the game winner, and his first of the year.
Regina did not waste any time in the third as
Cody Fowlie and
Christian Magnus scored less than a minute apart, extending the lead to four. Matt Brown finally got Mount Royal on the scoreboard, but
Carter Selinger came right back with a goal of his own to seal the victory.
Regina improves to 4-3-0 on the season, good for third place in the Canada West standings. They are now six points back of Alberta and Calgary who are tied for top spot with perfect 7-0-0 records. With the loss, Mount Royal sees their record drop to 2-5-0.
The two teams take to the ice once again tomorrow night at 7 p.m. at the Flames Community Arenas.
