The University of Regina's men's hockey team ended up with a weekend split with Mount Royal after a 5-2 loss on Saturday night at the Flames Community Arena in Calgary.
Matthew Brown had a pair for Mount Royal while Eric Galbraith, Jeremy Burns, and Devin Gannon all had singles.
Tyler Penny and
Mark Schneider replied for the U of R in the loss.
The loss drops Regina's record to 4-4-0 as the Cougars fall into a tie for third place in the Canada West standings with Saskatchewan.
Penny opened the scoring five minutes into the first on the power play, a goal which would stand as the only scoring of the first period.
Galbraith tied it up for Mount Royal early in the second, and the home side struck twice in the final two minutes of the middle frame with goals from both Brown and Burns. Brown added his second of the game just under six minutes into the third on the power play to push the lead to three.
Schneider scored the U of R's second power play goal of the game midway through the third, but that was as close as the Cougars would come. Gannon's empty netter with a minute and a half left sealed the win for Mount Royal.
Andrew Hayes got the start for the Cougars and stopped 35 of 39 shots, while Dalyn Flette made 26 saves in the win for Mount Royal.
The Cougars have a weekend off before returning to the ice on Nov. 8 and Nov. 9 at home against Manitoba.
