The University of Calgary's men's hockey team scored a pair of goals less than two minutes apart in the second period on its way to a 4-1 road win over Regina on Saturday night at The Co-operators Centre.

Giffen Nyren, Dan Gibb, Chris Collins, and Spencer Edwards all scored for Calgary in the win while Christian Magnus replied for the Cougars. Calgary goalie Jacob DeSerres stopped 15 of 16 shots, helping the Dinos improve to 2-0-0 on the season.

Andrew Hayes made 20 saves between the pipes for the Cougars, who fall to 0-2-0 after the first weekend of the Canada West schedule.

The first period saw plenty of back-and-forth action in addition to a number of big hits. Both the Dinos and the Cougars failed to convert on any of their power play opportunities though, and the teams headed to the dressing room tied 0-0.

Calgary jumped out to a quick lead in the second, getting goals from Nyren and Gibb 1:59 apart. However, the Cougars quickly responded with one of their own as rookie Christian Magnus scored his first career CIS goal to cut the deficit in half.

Early in the third, the Dinos began to pull away. Collins found the back of the net just as Cougar captain Craig Cuthbert was stepping out of the penalty box to make the score 3-1. Less than three minutes later, Spencer Edwards walked in and beat Cougar goaltender Andrew Hayes on the glove side to put the Dinos up by three.

Despite stringing together a few solid plays late in the period, the Cougars couldn't mount a comeback and the Dinos walked away with a 4-1 victory and a sweep of the weekend series.

Cory Pritz had a pair of assists for Calgary, which was 1-for-7 on the power play and outshot Regina by a 24-16 margin. The Cougars were 1-for-5 with the man advantage.

The Dinos will head home to play UBC next weekend, while the Cougars prepare to host the Lethbridge Pronghorns - a team they beat in preseason action 4-3 back on Sept. 14. The puck drops at The Co-operators Centre at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
