The University of Regina women's hockey team is back on the ice this weekend after a week away from Canada West action. The Cougars play host to the Alberta Pandas at The Co-operators Centre.

Currently ranked ninth in the CIS, the Cougars (7-3-0) sit tied for third in the Canada West standings with the Pandas (6-2-2). The team is coming off a road trip to Manitoba during the first week of November, which saw them split the weekend series. Jennifer Schmidt picked up her fifth victory of the season on Saturday in a 1-0 win, before the Bisons skated to a 5-3 victory on Sunday afternoon.

Second-year forward Meghan Sherven leads the Cougars in scoring, picking up a goal and an assist against Manitoba to give her six points in 10 games. Meanwhile Triston Riemer is off to a solid start on the blueline, scoring the lone goal in the Cougars' victory over the Bisons on Saturday to give her two goals and two assists on the season. Both goals have been game winners.

Jennifer Schmidt and Toni Ross continue to stand tall in goal for the Cougars. Schmidt started both games against Manitoba, picking up her third shutout of the year on Saturday night. Before Manitoba's Kyleigh Palmer scored at 15:23 of the first period on Sunday, Schmidt had played 211:37 of shutout hockey dating back to October 11th in Lethbridge. Even after her first loss of the season she remains one of the top goaltenders in Canada West with a 0.99 goals-against average and a .967 save percentage.

Alberta comes into the weekend riding a two-game winning streak, defeating Lethbridge 6-2 and 3-0 two weekends ago. The Pandas are led offensively by a pair of second-year forwards. Jaden Skoye is tied for third in Canada West scoring with six goals and five assists so far this season including a pair of goals and an assist in Lethbridge, while Jessica Kampjes also had a strong weekend against the Pronghorns with a goal and three assists.

The Pandas also have a strong goaltending corps with Lindsay Post and Michala Jeffries splitting the duties between the pipes. Post is currently the top goalie in the conference with a 2-3-0 record and a 0.95 goals-against average in addition to a .943 save percentage, while Jeffries sports a 4-1-0 record with a 1.41 goals against average.

The puck drops at The Co-operators Centre at 7 p.m. on Friday and 3 p.m. Saturday. All the action will be streamed live at candawest.tv.
