Cami Wooster scored a goal and added two assists as the Saskatchewan Huskies blanked the Regina Cougars 4-0 on Friday night in Canada West women's hockey action.
Sara Greschner, Kaitlin Willoughby and Alexee Klassen also scored for the Huskies, while rookie goaltender Karen Lefsrud picked up her fourth win of the year in net.
Jennifer Schmidt made 32 saves in a losing effort for the Cougars.
Both teams had a number of quality chances early, but the Huskies struck first. On their third power play of the period, third-year forward Greschner walked in and fired a shot that beat Schmidt blocker side. After 20 minutes, the Huskies were also outshooting the Cougars 13-8.
After getting three power-play chances in the first, the Huskies would recieve three more in the second. With
Meghan Sherven in the box for hooking, Willoughby found the back of the net to put the Huskies up by two. Seven minutes later Cassandra Jorgenson feathered a pass to Wooster in the slot and the Huskie's captain made no mistake, giving her team a 3-0 lead.
The Huskies would add another goal off the stick of Klassen early in the third to seal their 4-0 victory. Regina went 0/1 on the power play, while the Huskies were 2/7.
With the win the Huskies improve to 8-3-2 on the season. The Cougars see their record fall to 8-5-0. After a 5-0 loss to Alberta last weekend, this marks the first time the Cougars have been shutout in back-to-back games since January 2012 when Calgary beat the Cougars 4-0 and 2-0 at The Co-operators Centre.
