The Regina Cougars will look to get back in the win column this Friday and Saturday when they play host to the Calgary Dinos in the final weekend of Canada West women's hockey action before the December break.

Regina (8-5-1) currently sits in fifth place in the Canada West standings, but are just four points back of first-place UBC. Meanwhile, the Dinos occupy sixth place with a 6-7-1 mark in conference games.

The Cougars are coming off a tough weekend in Saskatoon where they dropped a pair of games to the Huskies. On Friday night the Huskies picked up a 4-0 victory, before slipping past the Cougars 1-0 in a shootout on Saturday. While the Cougars had difficulties finding the back of the net, they received solid goaltending from Jennifer Schmidt and Toni Ross – especially Ross, who collected a 32-save shutout before finally being solved by the Huskies in the shootout.

Meghan Sherven currently leads the Cougars in scoring with five goals and an assist in 14 games. A number of players are hot on her heels with five points, including Sawchuck and Tori Head. Despite a pair of losses over the weekend, the Cougars continue to have some of the best goaltending in the league. Schmidt has compiled a 6-2-0 record and a 1.36 goals-against average. Ross shut out the Huskies in regulation and overtime on Saturday, and sits with a 2-3-1 record to go along with a 2.23 goals-against average.

Calgary comes into town having split a home-and-home series with Alberta last weekend. They fell 1-0 to the Pandas on Friday and then rebounded with a 1-0 shootout win on Saturday. Erika Mitschke scored in the 12th round, while Hayley Dowling stopped 18 shots to give the Dinos the victory.

The Dinos are led offensively by Janelle Parent, who has eight goals and four assists for 12 points in 14 games played. She's also fired 47 shots at opposing goaltenders so far this season. Calgary has used three different goaltenders this year, including rookie Hayley Dowling who was between the pipes for both games last weekend. In five games she has a 4-1-0 record and boasts a 0.83 goals-against average with a .957 save percentage. Fourth-year goalie Amanda Tapp has appeared in nine of the Dinos' games, and sports a 3.01 goals-against average along with a 2-5-1 record.

The two teams met earlier this year in Calgary, during the first week of regular-season action. The Cougars swept the series, opening the weekend with a 2-1 overtime victory on Friday, before picking up a 3-1 win on Saturday. Meghan Sherven led the Cougars with two goals, while Kylee Kupper had a pair of assists.

The Cougars and Dinos will hit the ice at The Co-operators Centre at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday night. All of the action will be streamed live online at canadawest.tv.
