Megan Chamberlin (pictured) was a perfect 7-for-7 from the field as the University of Regina's women's basketball team came up with a 74-58 win over No. 4 Alberta on Friday night in Edmonton.

Chamberlin was also 4-for-5 from the free throw line and led all players with a career-high 18 points, helping the No. 6-ranked Cougars improve to 3-0 on the season.

The two teams traded leads in the first quarter and it looked as if that trend would continue in the second, but the visiting Cougars had other ideas and seized control of the contest. Alberta's Kelly Lyons had a three-point play two minutes into the second to tie up the ball game, but the Cougars went on a 12-0 run after that over the next four minutes capped by a three-pointer by former Panda Nicole Clarke.

The U of R led by 15 at halftime and though Alberta chipped the lead down to seven points on three occasions in the third and again early in the fourth, the Cougars pulled away down the stretch with 10 consecutive points that gave them a 17-point lead midway through the final period.

Three other players also hit double figures in scoring for the Cougars in the win, including Clarke (15 points), Katie Polischuk (13), and Jennilea Coppola (11). Coppola added a game-high eight rebounds and blocked a pair of shots while going a perfect 5-for-5 from the field.

Megan Van de Kraats led Alberta with 16 points as the Pandas fall to 1-2 on the season.

The two Prairie Division rivals will meet again on Saturday night at the Saville Community Sports Centre (5:00 p.m. MST, canadawest.tv).
