Box Score
The University of Regina's women's basketball team suffered its first loss of the Canada West schedule with a 59-41 setback to Alberta on Saturday night in Edmonton.
Though Alberta led this one from start to finish, it was a tight game at the half as the Pandas took a slim 27-25 lead into the break. But a 13-2 run for Alberta over a span of three minutes in the third quarter gave the Pandas their first double-digit lead of the game, and the Cougars were held to just six points in the fourth quarter as the home side pulled away.
Kendra Asleson and Andria Carlyon both had nine points for the Pandas, who improve to 2-2 on the season. Carlyon added 10 rebounds to lead all players on the glass.
Jennilea Coppola led the No. 6-ranked Cougars in both points (12) and rebounds (9), falling just short of a double-double.
Megan Chamberlin,
Alyssia Kajati, and
Charlotte Kot each added six points for the U of R.
The Cougars (3-1) will return home next weekend for a pair of games against provincial rival Saskatchewan. The Huskies were ranked No. 5 in last Tuesday's CIS Top Ten and will come into the weekend set with a 4-0 record after starting the season with road wins over Thompson Rivers and UBC Okanagan and a pair of home wins over Brandon.
