Box Score

The University of Regina's women's basketball team improved to 17-3 on the season after a 74-55 win over Lethbridge on Saturday night at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

Michelle Clark and Lindsay Ledingham both scored 20 points to lead the Cougars, while Clark added eight steals and six assists in the win. With post Brittany Read still injured, Jennilea Coppola got the start and collected her second double-double of the season.

Kim Veldman led the Pronghorns with 13 points and nine rebounds as Lethbridge drops to 10-10 and is mathematically eliminated from the Prairie Division playoff race with the loss.

Though the Cougars never trailed, Saturday's game was similar to Friday's in that the two teams stayed close throughout the first half before the home side turned it on in the third. This time the Cougars scored 11 straight points on a run that started just before the midway point of the third quarter and never looked back, leading by as many as 24 points in the fourth quarter before the Pronghorns got a few late buckets to keep the U of R's winning margin under 20.

Led by Clark, the Cougars lit it up from three-point range and ended up 14-for-29 from downtown as a team. Clark ended up 6-for-9 from three-point land, with her six triples tying for the most by a University of Regina player in a Canada West game. Kehlsie Crone and Ledingham were both 3-for-6 from downtown.

The Cougars finish off the Canada West schedule next weekend at Brandon, while Lethbridge closes out the conference slate with a home-and-home against Calgary.

NOTES: Though it was the final conference home game for Cougar players Michelle Clark, Nicisha Johnson, Lindsay Ledingham, Brittany Read, and Danielle Schmidt, they still have at the very least four games remaining at the CKHS ... the Cougars will host a best-of-three Canada West quarterfinal series against a Pacific Division opponent beginning on Feb. 22.
