Box Score

The University of Regina Cougars men's hockey team dropped a 4-1 decision to the Lethbridge Pronghorns on Saturday night, splitting their weekend series.

David McMullen, Mitch Maxwell, Cason Machacek and Ryon Moser each netted individual markers for Lethbridge, while Brody Luhning scored the lone goal for Regina.
In his first start for the Pronghorns, goaltender Alex Sirard turned aside 40 shots for the victory. Lucas Gore took the loss in net for the Cougars.

The Pronghorns jumped out to an early lead, as McMullen found the back of the net on the power play with a one-timer from inside the blue line. Less than five minutes later Luhning netted a power play goal of his own, beating Sirard through the five-hole to tie the game at one.

However just over two minutes into the second period, the Pronghorns would strike again. Maxwell picked up a rebound in the slot and fired a quick wrister past Gore to put Lethbridge up by two. Machacek added an insurance goal for the Pronghorns midway through the third, and Moser put one into the empty net to seal the victory.

With the win the Pronghorns break their 10-game losing streak and improve to 2-15-1. They'll play a home-and-home series next weekend against the top ranked University of Calgary Dinos.

Meanwhile, the Cougars return home with a 9-9-0 record. They'll play host to the UBC Thunderbirds Friday and Saturday night at The Co-operators Centre. Puck drop both evenings is set for 7 p.m.
