Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Polischuk leads Cougars to win, tourney title

Katie Polischuk's 30 points led the University of Regina's women's basketball team to a 95-69 non-conference win over Saskatchewan on Saturday afternoon at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

The win gives the Cougars a perfect 3-0 record at the non-conference tournament they hosted over the past three days at the CKHS. They also registered victories over Carleton on Thursday and Fraser Valley on Friday.

Polischuk drilled eight three-pointers in the win, with 22 of her 30 points coming in the first two quarters alone to help the Cougars build up a 27-point halftime lead. Jennilea Coppola and Alyssia Kajati both had double-doubles as the Cougars took serious advantage of Saskatchewan being without All-Canadian post Dalyce Emmerson. Coppola had 15 points and 16 rebounds, while Kajati had 18 points and 10 rebounds.

Kehlsie Crone scored 16 points and added seven assists and six rebounds for the Cougars, while Taylor Pelletier had eight points and led all players with eight assists.

Desarae Hogberg had 22 points to lead Saskatchewan, while Laura Dally had 15 and Kelsey Trulsud scored 11. Dally and Hogberg both added five assists for the Huskies, with Dally and Trulsrud tying for the team lead with seven rebounds.

Now 6-2 against CIS competition this season, the Cougars will continue their non-conference schedule next weekend with games against Toronto, McGill, and Lakehead at a tournament in Montreal.
