Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Cougars rebound, top Alberta 2-1

The University of Regina women's hockey team bounced back from Friday's 7-1 defeat to take down the Alberta Pandas 2-1 in Canada West action on Saturday.

The Pandas, who are ranked No. 4 in the country, outshot the Cougars 28-24 but it was the Cougars who came away with the win and handed Alberta their first loss of the season.

Kylie Gavelin scored again for the Cougars, her third goal in the past three games. Gavelin's goal came on the powerplay in the second period and would turn out to be the game-winner.
Carleen Meszaros (pictured) and Kylee Kupper assisted on the play.

Natasha Kostenko scored the first goal of the game in the first period, off an assist from Bailey Braden.

Alberta answered early in the third period on the powerplay, as Alison Campbell beat Toni Ross. Tess Houston and Hannah Mousek collected assists.
Campbell's goal made the score 2-1, but that was as close as the Pandas would get.

Meszaros had four shots on net for the Cougars. Gavelin and Kostenko each had three.

Toni Ross picked up her second win of the season as she stopped 27 shots between the pipes.
Lindsey Post made 22 saves in the loss.

Regina improves to 2-2 with the win. Alberta takes their first loss and falls to 3-1.

The Cougars will play host to the No. 10-ranked Calgary Dinos for a pair of games next weekend.
