The University of Regina women's soccer team fell 2-0 to the MacEwan Griffins in a hard-fought defensive battle on Saturday afternoon in Regina.
The game featured a pair of defensive-minded teams and was scoreless until the 34th minute, when Shaelan Donovan squeezed a low shot under Cougars goalkeeper
Kacey McFee.
Jennifer Lam assisted on the goal.
The match remained 1-0 for the Griffins until the 94th minute, when Kassandra Jajczay was sent in alone by Jenna Seitz and potted a well-placed shot to the right corner of the net.
Regina failed to string together any strong scoring chances in the game, and only managed three shots on net.
Their best chance came early, when Caitlin Graf had a long shot sail just over the crossbar in the 2nd minute.
MacEwan keeper Rebecca Reif handled all three shots easily to stretch her scoreless streak to eight games.
McFee made four saves in net for Regina.

Rachel Taylor and
Karlee Vorrieter (pictured) were the only three Cougars outfielders to play the full 90 minutes.
Regina falls to 4-3-2 in a crowded Prairie Division playoff race. MacEwan improves to 7-1-1 with the win.
The two teams are to match up again on Sunday, with the game scheduled for noon at the U of R Field.
