The University of Regina women's hockey team is set to host the No. 10-ranked Calgary Dinos for a pair of home games this weekend at The Co-operators Centre.

The Cougars are coming off a split against the Alberta Pandas last weekend, when the Pandas were ranked fourth in the country. The Pandas trounced the Cougars on Friday with a 7-1 win, but the Cougars bounced back on Saturday and managed a 2-1 victory.

Kylie Gavelin (pictured) continued her hot play for the Cougars, scoring in both games against Alberta to extend her goal-scoring streak to three games. Rookie Natasha Kostenko also scored in Saturday's win and Kylee Kupper registered an assist on both nights.

The Cougars also split their opening weekend of the season, as they went to overtime on back-to-back nights against the visiting Manitoba Bisons. Gavelin was named the Canada West second star of the week following her game-winning goal against the Bisons.

"The defence is playing very well as a group," head coach Sarah Hodges said. "Things are coming together and we're improving every game."

Toni Ross and Jennifer Schmidt have split time in net thus far in the young season, with both goaltenders starting two games. Ross has earned wins in both of her starts, boasting a .949 save percentage and a 1.71 goals-against average.
Schmidt sits with an 0-1-1 record, having made 43 saves in her two starts.

The Dinos enter town sporting a 3-1 record, after collecting a pair of wins last weekend in a home-and-home with Lethbridge. Calgary also split a home-and-home series with the Mount Royal Cougars to open the season.

Calgary is led by fourth-year forward Iya Gavrilova, who is currently tied for first in the conference with eight points. Fifth-year teammate Janelle Parent is not far behind, as she has six points including three goals.

"We'll need to approach the Dinos like any other team and be prepared to compete," Hodges noted. "I'm very happy with the way we bounced back in the second game against Alberta. We battled hard and definitely deserved the win."

Calgary won three out of the four meetings between the teams last season.

Friday's contest is slated for a 7 p.m. start at The Co-operators Centre. Saturday's game is to begin at 3 p.m., also at The Co-operators Centre.
