Thunderbirds ean split with 2-0 win over Cougars

The University of Regina women's hockey team lost 2-0 to the No. 5-ranked British Columbia Thunderbirds in Canada West action in Vancouver on Saturday night.

Haneet Parhar and Melissa Goodwin each scored for the Thunderbirds to help UBC bounce back from a 3-2 overtime defeat on Friday.
Both Parhar's and Goodwin's goals came on the powerplay in the second period.

Kelly Murray, Cailey Hay, Rebecca Unrau and Madison Patrick collected assists for UBC.

The Thunderbirds went 2-for-11 on the powerplay in the game, while limiting Regina to 0-for-5 with the man advantage.

The Cougars thought they had found the back of the net in the first period, but the referee ruled no goal as the puck crossed the line after the whistle had sounded.

Regina had two breakaway chances in the third period, but Samantha Langford made key saves on both.

Tori Head, Kylie Gavelin, and Carleen Meszaros (pictured) each had four shots on net to lead the Cougars.
Sarah Casorso had five shots on net for the Thunderbirds.

Toni Ross stopped 37 shots in net for the Cougars. Langford made 30 saves for the shutout for UBC.

Regina falls to 1-3-3-1 with the loss. The Thunderbirds improved to 4-1-1-2 with the win.

Regina is back in action next weekend next weekend when they host Lethbridge for a pair of games. Lethbridge sits one spot below Regina in the standings with a 1-0-6-0 record.
