The Thunderbirds (4-2-2) and the Cougars (0-8-0) both enter this weekend coming off their bye weeks.
Tyler Penny leads the Cougars with two goals this season.
John Sonntag and
Cody Fowlie each have a goal and an assist for Regina.
Rookies
Devon McMullen,
Tyler Giebel and
Dylen McKinlay (pictured) have each earned a marker in their first season with the Cougars.
"All of our rookies are highly skilled and talented, and we expected them to make an immediate impact with the team," head coach
Todd Johnson said. "None of them are playing like rookies so far; they are very comfortable with the team and we still anticipate them making significant improvements as hockey players."
Lucas Gore and
Mitch Kilgore have shared time in net this season, with Gore making six starts between the pipes and Kilgore making two.
The Thunderbirds are led by fifth-year forward Nate Fleming, who has two goals and seven assists so far this season. Both Nick Buonassisi and Adam Rossignol lead UBC and are tied for third in Canada West with five goals.
Matt Hewitt and rookie Eric Williams have each seen time between the pipes for the Thunderbirds this season, both posting save percentages over .900. Hewitt has a 3-1-1 record while Williams has posted a 1-1-1 mark so far.
"We've made plenty of adjustments and continued to progress as a team during our week off," Johnson added. "We are still confident that if we can put a solid 60 minutes together that we'll be successful this weekend."
Both Friday's and Saturday's games are scheduled for 7 p.m. starts at The Co-operators Centre.
