Cougars downed 4-1 by Bisons

The University of Regina men's hockey team lost 4-1 to the Manitoba Bisons in Winnipeg on Saturday afternoon.

Jordan DePape had two goals and an assist and Shaquille Merasty tallied a goal and an assist of his own as the Bisons topped the Cougars for the second day in a row.

DePape opened the scoring with his second goal in as many days. Merasty also scored for the second-straight game, with a marker in the second. Taylor Dickin notched a powerplay goal later in the second period after Cody Fowlie was whistled for tripping.

Tyler Penny scored the Cougars first goal of the weekend on an unassisted effort late in the third period to cut the Bison lead to 3-1.

DePape added an empty-netter with 25 seconds remaining for his third goal of the weekend.

Lucas Gore made the start in net for Regina and stopped 13 of the 16 shots he faced in two periods of work.
Mitch Kilgore came on in relief for the second game in a row and made seven saves in the final period.

Liam Brennan registered three shots on net and Penny totalled three.

Regina falls to 0-4 with the loss. Manitoba improves to 2-2.
The Cougars will resume action next weekend with a pair of home games against the No. 1-ranked Alberta Golden Bears.
