The University of Regina men's hockey team will face the rival Saskatchewan Huskies this weekend for a home-and-home set in Canada West action.
The Cougars, who are coming off a split at Lethbridge, will host the Huskies on Friday night at The Co-operators Centre before travelling to Saskatoon for the second game on Saturday evening.
Regina sits at 2-10 on the season after falling to Lethbridge 5-3 on Saturday and bouncing back to beat the Pronghorns 4-1 on Sunday.
Cody Fowlie and
Tyler Henry (pictured) each notched a pair of assists on Saturday, while
Brody Luhning,
Tyler Giebel and
Liam Brennan scored.
Sunday's action saw the line of
Sanfred King,
Ian McNulty and
Dylen McKinlay combine for nine points, as King had a goal and two helpers, McNulty registered two goals and one assist, and McKinlay collected three assists.
"It was really good to see those guys get rewarded for their hard work," head coach
Todd Johnson said. "It was the first time we tried that line combination and obviously it is something we're going to stick with as long as it keeps producing."
Mitch Kilgore stopped 22 shots on Sunday in the win and
Lucas Gore made 27 saves in Saturday's loss.
Henry, Fowlie and McKinlay each have five points to lead the team.
The Huskies (5-7) are also coming off a split, as they hosted the Mount Royal Cougars last weekend. Mount Royal downed the Huskies 4-1 on Friday but the Huskies rebounded, coming away with a 6-3 win on Saturday.
"It's a strong rivalry, a lot of the players are friends off the ice but as soon as that puck drops it's going to be a battle," Johnson said.
Second-year forward John Lawrence leads the Huskies with seven assists and nine points on the season.
Ryan Holfeld and Jordon Cooke have each started six games in net for Saskatchewan; Holfeld has a 2-4 record while Cooke has earned three wins.
"They're two of the best goalies in the league," Johnson added. "We're going to have to get some bodies in front and cause some chaos to really test them."
Both games are set for 7 p.m. starts.
