SATURDAY: vs. Saskatchewan, 7:00 p.m. (The Co-operators Centre)

The University of Regina women's hockey team is coming off a weekend sweep of the Lethbridge Pronghorns and will duel the rival Saskatchewan Huskies this weekend in a home-and-home set.

The Cougars (3-3-3-1) will travel to Saskatoon to face the Huskies on Friday before hosting the rematch on Saturday at The Co-operators Centre. Both games are scheduled for 7 p.m.

Regina downed the Pronghorns 4-1 on Friday and continued their strong play on Saturday, beating the visitors 2-0.

Kylie Gavelin tallied three goals in the two games, bumping her up to fourth in Canada West with seven goals on the Canada West campaign.

Gavelin's first goal on Friday came on a spectacular individual effort, where she weaved her way through three Pronghorn defenders before beating the goaltender to the glove side. Her second goal from Friday night showcased her speed, as she raced down the right side, scooped up a loose puck and roofed a backhand shot just under the crossbar.

Her marker on Saturday came as the insurance goal in the third period, as she raced in front and converted a nice feed from Natasha Kostenko.

Toni Ross and Jennifer Schmidt (pictured) each made one start in net on the weekend, and both collected their third wins of the season. Both netminders have save percentages hovering around the .935 mark and one shutout on the season.

The Huskies enter the weekend with a 4-3-3-0 record after defeating Mount Royal twice last weekend.

Saskatchewan is led by Kaitlin Willoughby and Lauren Zary, who each have seven points on the season.

Cassidy Hendricks has started all ten games in net for the Huskies, and has posted a 2.03 goals-against average with one shutout.
