The University of Regina men's hockey team fell 2-1 in a shootout at the hands of the hometown Saskatchewan Huskies in Canada West action on Saturday night.
Tyler Henry hit the post and and
Cody Fowlie was stopped by Jordan Cooke's blocker in the shootout while Jesse Ross and Parker Thomas each scored to seal the win for the Huskies.
Lucas Gore and the Cougars defence stood tall in the overtime periods, as they killed off two Husky power plays.
Craig McCallum scored the regulation goal for the Huskies, striking on the powerplay in the first period off assists from Michael Sofillas and Josh Roach.
The Cougars replied with two seconds left in the second period, as
Miguel Pereira scored his first-career Canada West goal to tie things at 1-1.
Tyler Penny (pictured) and Skylar Hladun collected assists on the play.
Lucas Gore got his second consecutive start in net for the Cougars, and made 37 saves.
Cooke spent the night between the pipes for the Huskies and stopped 40 shots.
The Cougars move to 3-10-1 with the loss while the Huskies improve to 6-8 for the Canada West schedule.
Regina will host the Mount Royal Cougars (8-5) next weekend for a pair of games at The Co-operators Centre.Â
