It's normally a Tull that leads the offence for the University of Regina's men's basketball team, but it was
Travis Sylvestre's 23 points that powered the Cougars to a 75-60 road win over Lethbridge on Saturday.
Sylvestre was 10-for-17 from the field and also pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds for a double-double, and
Will Tallman added 17 points and six rebounds for the Cougars as they improve their Canada West record to 3-5 on the season.
Saturday's game started out like the first game of the weekend set with the Cougars jumping out to a double-digit lead in the first half, but - unlike Friday - the Cougars were able to hang onto the advantage in the second half. The U of R took an 11-point lead into the break before a brief 7-1 run by Lethbridge cut the lead to seven, but that would be as close as the Pronghorns would get.Â
The Cougars went on a 12-1 run over the last four minutes of the third quarter and the first minute of the fourth to build up a 20-point lead and they cruised to their third Canada West victory of the season.
Jonathan Tull added 10 points for the Cougars to go along with a game-high six assists, while Tallman also had six rebounds for the U of R.
Michael Pierzchala sparked Lethbridge off the bench with 19 points, while Brent Watkins scored eight and led all players with 12 rebounds as the Pronghorns fall to 5-3 on the season.
Now two games back of the final Pioneer Division playoff spot, the Cougars (3-5) will host Brandon (1-7) next Friday and Saturday at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport in what will be a pair of pivotal Canada West games.
