The University of Regina's women's basketball team now has six consecutive wins after claiming a 72-58 road win over Lethbridge on Saturday.
For the second game in a row, it was fourth-year guard
Kehlsie Crone (pictured) leading the offence for the Cougars. After collecting 21 points in Friday's win, Crone hit five three-pointers for the second straight contest and ended up with 22 points on Saturday.
Lethbridge led by five after the first quarter, but the teams went into the halftime break level after a second quarter that saw a combined total of just 13 points scored - nine by Regina and four by Lethbridge.
But the third quarter was more exciting to watch, especially if you were a Cougar supporter. The U of R scored 10 straight points as part of a 15-3 run to take a double-digit lead that they would hang on to for most of the stretch run. Lethbridge got the lead back down to seven at two points midway through the fourth, but the Cougars responded immediately with three-pointers both times and were never truly challenged by the Pronghorns.
Besides Crone's 22-point outburst, the Cougars also got 14 points from
Charlotte Kot and an 11-rebound performance by
Jennilea Coppola as they improve to 6-2 on the season and move into sole possession of second place in the Pioneer Division.
Kim Veldman (3-5) led Lethbridge with 33 points in a losing cause.
The Cougars will host Brandon (3-5) next Friday and Saturday at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport in what will be their final Canada West games before the December break.
