The University of Regina women's hockey team closed out the first half of their Canada West schedule on the road on Saturday, as they fell 2-1 to the Lethbridge Pronghorns.
Aislinn Kooistra scored her second goal of the weekend for the Pronghorns, and Kirsten Reeves netted the game-winner. Both Pronghorn goals came in the second period at even strength.
Kylie Gavelin scored for the Cougars with 31 seconds left in the first period, as she stole the puck and broke in alone before beating Crystal Patterson.
The Cougars outshot the Pronghorns 52-25 on the night, led by Gavelin who registered a whopping 10 shots on net.
Emma Waldenberger chipped in with six shots on target, and
Alexis Larson and
Carleen Meszaros both had five on net from the point.
Toni Ross made 23 saves for the Cougars, and Patterson stood on her head in net for the Pronghorns, stopping 51 shots.
With the loss, Regina falls to 4-6-5-1 heading into the break. That record leaves them in sixth place in Canada West with 25 points on the campaign. Lethbridge moves to 4-0-12-0 with the win.
The Cougars will be back in action in January, after the December break.
