The University of Regina's women's basketball team bounced Trinity Western by a score of 97-57 on Saturday night in Langley, B.C.
The victory pushes the No. 4-ranked Cougars' winning streak to 12 consecutive Canada West games and keeps the U of R in an epic three-way tie for top spot in the Prairie Division with Alberta and Saskatchewan, both of which are also 16-2.
The Cougars led from wire to wire on Saturday, scoring the game's opening 10 points and going on a big 22-7 run in the third quarter to push a 15-point lead to an insurmountable 30-point advantage.
Six Cougars scored in double figures and all 11 U of R players that got into the game scored at least two points.
Charlotte Kot and
Nicole Clarke both had 16, while
Alyssia Kajati scored 14,
Katie Polischuk had 12,
Janine Guijt scored 11, and
Jennilea Coppola added 10 points.
Kajati led all players with 10 rebounds in 20 minutes off the bench to score the game's lone double-double.
Natalie Carkner's 17 points led Trinity Western, which falls to 4-14 on the season.
The Cougars will now prepare for two critical home games against Calgary (11-7). The Dinos can't catch any of the three teams ahead of them in the Prairie Division standings, but are battling for the fourth and final playoff spot in the division and enter the weekend one game up on fifth-place Winnipeg.
Tip-off is scheduled for 6:15 on Friday night and 5:00 on Saturday night at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.
