Box Score

The University of Regina Cougars and Alberta are headed to a third and deciding game in their Canada West semifinal series after the Pandas took a 2-1 win in Game 2 on Saturday night at the Clare Drake Arena in Edmonton.

Jayden Skoye scored both Alberta goals less than six minutes apart in the first period, while Stephanie Sawchuk's power play goal in the second was the only time the Cougars beat Alberta goalie Michala Jeffries.

Jennifer Schmidt had another solid game for the Cougars, stopping 29 of Alberta's 31 shots in the loss.

Skoye opened the scoring 13 minutes into the first after coming out from the corner to the left of Schmidt, holding off a U of R defenceman, and going blocker side to notch her first goal of the postseason. She added to the lead with less than a minute to go in the opening period after a deflection in the high slot off a shot from the right point, giving the Pandas a two-goal lead heading into the first intermission.

Sawchuk scored the U of R's lone goal after Carleen Meszaros made a nice play to keep the puck in at the left point. Sawchuk stickhandled into the slot, created enough space for a shot, and fired a wrist shot high blocker side on Jeffries to get the Cougars on the board.

Game 3 will face off on Sunday night at 6:00 (MST) at the Clare Drake Arena.
