Box Score

The second-longest game in University of Regina history finally ended just seconds before the second overtime ended as Saskatchewan's Marley Ervine scored to give the Huskies a 1-0 win in Game 1 of the best-of-three Canada West final series in Saskatoon.

Just when it looked like the two teams would head to a triple overtime, Ervine's shot over Cougar goalie Jennifer Schmidt's glove finally put an end to the game 89 minutes and 38 seconds after it started.

The two teams combined for 85 shots without a goal before Ervine's marker, her first of the postseason. The Cougars ended up outshooting Saskatchewan by a 46-40 margin, but Huskies goalie Cassidy Hendricks stopped all 46 shots for the shutout.

The two teams combined for nine minor penalties, with the Cougars going 0-for-3 on the power play and Saskatchewan going scoreless on its six opportunities with the man advantage.

Regina and Saskatchewan will meet on Saturday night in Game 2 of the Canada West final series. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. (www.canadawest.tv)
