Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Golden Bears outlast Cougars with 2-1 overtime win

The University of Regina men's hockey team was resilient but couldn't outlast the hometown Alberta Golden Bears, as they fell 2-1 in overtime on Friday.

TJ Foster scored the overtime winner just 52 seconds into the extra frame, off assists from Jordan Hickmott and Thomas Carr. Foster also assisted on Alberta's first goal, which was scored on the power play by Johnny Lazo.

The Cougars did strike first, as Troy Hunter (pictured) notched his fourth of the season off assists from Jordan Reeve and Tyler Henry. The goal came at the 4:51 mark of the second period and gave the Cougars a lead which was held until 18:59 of the second.

Mitch Kilgore was the story of the game for the Cougars, as he totalled 42 saves on the night.

The Cougars recorded nine shots in the first period, followed by five in the second and only four in the third. Kurtis Mucha stopped 17 of those 18 shots.

With the result, Regina loses their third straight and falls to 6-13-2. Alberta improves on their conference-best record, moving to 18-3.

The teams will battle again on Saturday, with puck drop scheduled for 6 p.m. MST.
