Jennilea Coppola (pictured) became the University of Regina's all-time leader in blocked shots, but the Cougars saw their win streak end at 10 as they lost 71-56 to Saskatchewan on Friday night in Saskatoon.
Coppola had two blocked shots in the game, coming in the span of 30 seconds early in the fourth. Her first block was the 127th of her career to tie her with Chelsea Cassano, and her second – on a Jordyn Halvorson field goal attempt – gave her the school's all-time lead.
But it wasn't enough to lift the Cougars past the No. 5-ranked Huskies. The U of R put together a pair of small runs in the fourth and got to within 12 at one point late in the game, but Saskatchewan's lead of 19 heading into the final period was too much to overcome.
Five Saskatchewan players broke into double figures, including Laura Dally, Riley Humbert, and Kelsey Trulsrud each with 12 points. Dalyce Emmerson and Desarae Hogberg each scored 10, while Emmerson had a team-leading nine rebounds.
Alyssia Kajati had 15 points and 10 rebounds for her second Canada West double-double of the season, while
Katie Polischuk hit three triples and finished with 11. Coppola finished with eight points and six rebounds in addition to her two blocks.
After suffering their first loss since Nov. 1, the Cougars fall to 10-3 and are now in second place in the Pioneer Division a half-game back of Alberta (10-2). The Cougars will get another crack at the 8-3 Huskies on Saturday night in Saskatoon (6:15,
