Cougars finish in sixth place at Capers Fall Classic tournament

The University of Regina's men's basketball team finished in sixth place at the Capers Fall Classic non-conference tournament after a 100-88 loss to Canada West foe Calgary on Saturday afternoon.

The Cougars had a 49-44 advantage over Calgary at halftime, but saw that lead evaporate as the Dinos opened the third quarter on a 16-3 run. Regina trailed by as many as 13 points in the fourth quarter before coming almost all the way back as a Brian Ofori free throw cut the deficit to just four points with a minute left, but the Dinos hit a three and sank seven free throws in the final minute to put the game away.

Jhony Verrone's 23 points led Calgary, while Thomas Cooper added 20 points and six rebounds. Regina's Alex Igual was 6-for-13 from three-point land and led all players with 24 points, while Will Tallman added 16, Travis Sylvestre had 13, and Brandon Tull chipped in with nine.
