Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Second period push propels Huskies past Cougars

The Sasakatchewan Huskies scored three times in three minutes and 17 seconds on their way to a 6-2 win over the University of Regina men's hockey team on Saturday in Saskatoon.

After the first period ended with a 1-1 score, the Huskies scored three times in the second period to put the game out of reach. Troy Hunter and Cody Fowlie scored for the Cougars. Michael Sofillas scored twice for the Huskies, while Sean Aschim, Andrew Johnson, Levi Cable and Cameron Blair also scored.

Sofillas opened the scoring just ten seconds into the game, but Fowlie answered late in the opening frame to tie things up heading into the second. The Huskies gained control late in the second period, led by Sofillas again. The second-year forward scored on the powerplay in the second, and Aschim and Johnson added to the lead within the next two and a half minutes, essentially putting the game away for the Huskies.

Cable and Blair added to the lead in the third before Hunter scored to cut into the Huskie advantage. It was too late for the Cougars, though, as the Huskies easily skated to a 6-2 final score.

Miguel Pereira, J.J. Coleshaw and Zach McPhee collected assists for the Cougars, who drop to 1-5-0 with the loss.

Mitch Kilgore stopped 30 shots for the Cougars, while Jordan Cooke made 36 saves in the win.

The Cougars are back in action next weekend as they hit the road to take on the UBC Thunderbirds.
