Cougars close season with hard-fought draw

The University of Regina women's soccer team wrapped up its Canada West season with a 2-2 draw against the Winnipeg Wesmen on Sunday.

Celia Michaud and Olivia Bolen scored for the Cougars. Danielle Bulloch and Hayley Wiebe replied for the Wesmen.

The Cougars fell behind early, as Bulloch took a feed from Tyler Johnson and beat keep Kacey McFee in the fourth minute to put the home team up 1-0.

It didn't take the Cougars long to respond, as Karlee Vorrieter sent a ball to Bolen who was able to put it past Justina Jarmoszko to even things up in the ninth minute.

The rest of the first half and the majority of the second half was a defensive battle, with neither team gaining enough traction to put together any solid opportunities. The Wesmen took the lead in the 74th minute, with a goal off the foot of Wiebe.

Just as it looked like he Wesmen would escape with their second win of the season, the Cougars captain made her mark. Michaud, who was playing in her final Canada West game with the Cougars, netted her third career goal and second of the season to draw the Cougars even again. The goal came in the 87th minute, and the match would end with a 2-2 score.

McFee and Jarmoszko each stopped seven shots for their respective teams. Both teams finish the Canada West campaign with a 1-10-3 record, falling short of the post-season.
