The University of Regina women's soccer team fell 1-0 to the hometown Victoria Vikes on Saturday evening, dropping the Cougars to 1-5-2 on the season.
The Vikes, winners of six in a row, got the lone goal of the match off the foot of Caitlin Milham following a corner kick in the 62nd minute. Victoria was relentless on the attack, hammering 25 shots at
Savannah Williams, who finished the match with a whopping 10 saves.
The Cougars attack was stifled by the Vikes, as the visiting team was only able to muster three shots, two of which were on target.
Regina almost found the equalizing goal late in the game, as there was a scramble following
Shayla Kapila's corner kick in the 90th minute, but the ball was eventually cleared by a Victoria defender.
Victoria improves to 6-2-1, good enough for second in the West Division. Regina drops to 1-5-2, but holds on to the sixth spot in the Canada West East Division.
Next on the schedule for the Cougars is a home and home matchup with the Saskatchewan Huskies. The Huskies are tied atop the East Division at 5-2-0. The Cougars will host the provincial rival on Saturday before making the trip up Highway 11 to battle the Huskies on Sunday afternoon.
