Second-year guard
Britton Belyk exploded for 20 points on Friday night as the University of Regina's women's basketball team bounced Fraser Valley with a wire-to-wire 86-48 win at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.
Besides her 20 points, Belyk also pulled down six rebounds – a team-leading five of which came on the offensive glass. She was 4-for-5 from three-point range and also had an assist and a steal in 19 minutes on the floor.
The win improves Regina's non-conference record against CIS competition this year to a perfect 4-0, but the Cougars will face a stern test on Saturday as they'll tip off against similarly undefeated Saskatchewan at noon for the tournament title.
Katie Polischuk hit three triples and finished with 13 points for the Cougars, while
Alyssia Kajati came off the bench to score 10 on 5-of-6 shooting. Rookie forward
Alexi Rowden had a team-high seven rebounds.
Shayna Cameron and Kayli Sartori both broke into double figures for UFV with 17 points and 14 points, respectively. Taylor Claggett led all players with 10 rebounds.
UFV will meet Guelph on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. The winner will claim third place in the non-conference tournament.
