Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Cougars earn sweep with another offensive explosion

The University of Regina men's hockey enjoyed the second-straight day in which their offence was clicking, as the Cougars downed the hometown Lethbridge Pronghorns 8-4 on Saturday afternoon.

J.J. Coleshaw (pictured) had four points for the Cougars, including a hat trick. Miguel Pereira added two goals of his own and Mark Schneider had a goal and two assists. Cody Fowlie had a goal and a helper and Trent Lofthouse also found the back of the net as the Cougars (4-10-0) completed the sweep. Dillan McCombie also had two assists and Tyler Giebel, Brody Luhning, Landon Peel and Troy Hunter each had one helper.

Tyler Hansen, Brock Hirsche, Tim Campbell and Kyle Moore scored for the Pronghorns, who drop to 6-7-1 with the loss.

For the second consecutive game, Lethbridge took an early lead. Hansen was able to beat Mitch Kilgore early on Saturday afternoon off a rebound, but the Cougars bounced back for six straight goals to put things away. Coleshaw scored his first of the game at the 14:30 mark of the first period on the powerplay, and Pereira was able to beat Dylan Tait to the blocker side to give the Cougars a 2-1 lead after the first.

The floodgates really opened in the second period, as the Cougars would score three goals in the frame. Coleshaw and Pereira would each net their second of the afternoon on the powerplay, and Lofthouse also added to the score. Coleshaw completed the hat trick less than a minute into the third period off assists from Fowlie and Schneider.

Moore would answer in the third period to break the Cougars' streak, but Regina got right back at it as Coleshaw set up Fowlie for his fourth of the season.

The Pronghorns would add a couple more to draw closer thanks to Campbell and Hirsche before Schneider added an empty netter to really seal the deal.

Kilgore was solid in net, stopping 31 shots to earn his second win of the season. Tait took the loss in net, stopping 29 shots before being replaced by Warren Shymko, who made four saves on six shots in just over a period of work.

Regina will complete their 2015 schedule next weekend at home, as the Cougars play host to the Manitoba Bisons on Thursday and Friday nights at The Co-operators Centre. The Cougars split with Manitoba in their Canada West opening weekend, winning 2-1 before falling 6-2 in Winnipeg.
