Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Quick start lifts Cougars to 64-48 road win over Brandon

The University of Regina's women's basketball team went on a 17-1 run in the first half and never looked back, eventually ending up with a 64-48 win over Brandon on Saturday at BU's Healthy Living Centre.

All five Cougar starters scored during that big run, which turned a 6-6 game midway through the first quarter into a 23-7 lead for the Cougars a minute into the second. The Cougars (2-0) led by 14 at the half and though Brandon scored the first four points of the third quarter and had the chance to cut the lead down to single digits, the Cougars responded with a 15-4 run to build up their largest lead of the game and essentially put away any hope of a comeback for the Bobcats.

Alyssia Kajati had her 10th career double-double for the Cougars, finishing with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Charlotte Kot led the U of R in scoring for the second consecutive night, finishing with a game-high 20 while adding eight rebounds. Sidney Dobner also broke into double figures in points, scoring 10 while leading all players with six assists.

Keisha Cox led Brandon (0-2) with 16 points.

The Cougars will now have a weekend off while they prepare for their home openers against Lethbridge on Nov. 20 and Nov. 21 at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

NOTES: Including postseason, the Cougars have now defeated Brandon in 74 consecutive games in a streak that dates back to the 1994-95 season.
