Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Cougars settle for weekend split after 76-67 loss to Winnipeg

The University of Regina's men's basketball team had to settle for a weekend split after a 76-67 road loss to Winnipeg on Saturday afternoon.

The Cougars had opened the weekend set with a tight 74-71 victory on Friday night.

On Saturday, the U of R scored the first four points of the contest but a 13-0 run by Winnipeg over the next five-plus minutes gave the Wesmen a lead they would never relinquish. The Wesmen led by 13 after one quarter and by five at halftime, but it was a 16-2 run for Winnipeg that started with a Travis Krahn triple at the third quarter buzzer and finished with Winnipeg up 16 midway through the fourth that essentially sealed the win for the home side.

Winnipeg (12-8) was led by 23 points by Christopher Baxter and a 16-rebound effort off the bench by Denzel Lynch-Blair. Jordan Clennon had 14 points for the Wesmen.

Brandon Tull led the Cougars with 21 points and 11 rebounds, while Will Tallman had 12 points and 10 rebounds. Jonathan Tull also had 12 points, with Jeremy Zver adding 11.

The loss ends the U of R's season, as the top seven teams in the Pioneer Division advance to the postseason and the Cougars finish in eighth place with an 8-12 record.

With no fifth-year players, the Cougars could return their entire roster for the 2015-16 season.
